Getting Started
You can schedule your first appointment at My Psychiatrist by calling our office at (703) 596-4796 or by using our convenient online booking system. New patients are asked to complete intake forms through our secure patient portal prior to their visit, which helps us prepare for a thorough and productive first session.
Your initial psychiatric evaluation is a comprehensive 45- to 60-minute session where your provider will review your medical and mental health history, discuss your current symptoms, and answer any questions you may have. Based on this evaluation, your psychiatrist will develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals.
Most insurance plans do not require a referral to see a psychiatrist at our practice. However, certain HMO plans may require a referral from your primary care physician before your visit. We recommend calling our office at (703) 596-4796 to verify your specific plan requirements before scheduling.
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MD or DO) who specializes in mental health and is licensed to prescribe medication, while a therapist typically holds a master's or doctoral degree and provides talk therapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). At My Psychiatrist, we offer both psychiatric medication management and therapy services under one roof, making it easy to receive comprehensive mental health care at our Reston and Falls Church locations.
Insurance & Payment
My Psychiatrist accepts a wide range of insurance plans including Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), CareFirst, Cigna, United Healthcare, Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, and many more. Because plan networks can change, we encourage you to call our office at (703) 596-4796 to verify that your specific insurance plan is accepted before your appointment.
Your out-of-pocket cost depends on your specific insurance plan, but copays for psychiatric and therapy visits typically average between $21 and $45 per session. Our billing team verifies your insurance benefits before your first visit so you know what to expect, and we are happy to answer any questions about your coverage.

Services & Treatment
Our board-certified psychiatrists and mental health providers treat a wide range of conditions including anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, panic disorder, psychotic disorders, insomnia, and stress-related disorders. We create individualized treatment plans that may include medication management, psychotherapy, or a combination of evidence-based approaches tailored to each patient's needs.
Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray specifically designed for treatment-resistant depression in adults who have not responded adequately to other antidepressant medications. It is administered under medical supervision at our certified Spravato treatment center, where patients are monitored for a minimum of two hours after each session. Many patients begin to experience improvement in depressive symptoms within the first few weeks of treatment.
Yes, we offer secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth video appointments through Doxy.me for patients throughout Virginia. Our virtual psychiatry and teletherapy services provide the same quality of care as in-person visits, allowing you to meet with your provider from the comfort of your home. Telehealth is available for both initial evaluations and follow-up appointments.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared treatment for depression that uses targeted magnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells in areas of the brain associated with mood regulation. TMS therapy is typically recommended for patients who have not found sufficient relief from traditional antidepressant medications. Treatment sessions last approximately 20 to 40 minutes, and TMS is covered by most major insurance plans.
Yes, several of our providers specialize in child and adolescent psychiatry and are experienced in treating patients as young as age 3. We address a range of pediatric mental health concerns including ADHD, anxiety, behavioral disorders, and mood disorders. Our clinicians use age-appropriate, evidence-based approaches to help young patients and their families thrive.
