What Is TMS Therapy?
TMS delivers focused magnetic pulses to brain areas involved in mood regulation. Unlike medication, TMS works directly on neural circuits associated with depression. It's non-invasive, requires no anesthesia, and patients can resume normal activities immediately. TMS produces significant improvement in 50-60% of patients with treatment-resistant depression.
The TMS Treatment Process
A typical TMS course involves daily sessions over 4-6 weeks.
- Initial psychiatric evaluation to determine candidacy
- Brain mapping to identify optimal treatment location
- Daily sessions (Monday-Friday) for 4-6 weeks
- Each session lasts 20-40 minutes
- No sedation — remain awake and alert
- Resume activities immediately after treatment
- FDA-cleared with excellent safety profile
- Covered by most major insurance plans
